Corvus Whitaker has been part of the team at Operation New Hope since 2007. He has served the organization’s mission to match people returning from incarceration with living wage careers in several capacities over the years and has worked his way up to the leadership level. Applying the knowledge and experienced gained from his various roles, Corvus now manages the Ready4Release Program. He oversees the team of case managers who deliver pre-release services to 17 facilities in Florida. He and his team enroll interested clients and build an individualized release plan to facilitate a smooth transition back into the community. Corvus works to bridge the reentry divide to ensure adequate housing, transportation, and job training.
Driven by his family’s own incarceration history, Corvus was called to reentry. He believes that people deserve a second chance and values the opportunities he has to help change someone’s life. He is encouraged by the people he has touched knowing that they too will go on to impact other peoples’ lives. “I’m in the business of new starts and new beginnings. It’s all about empathy and compassion.”
Corvus is a graduate of Florida State University, earning his degree in Sociology. Prior to joining Operation New Hope, Corvus worked as an educator. In his down time, Corvus volunteers in youth athletics programs.
