Thanks to all our amazing 2022 event sponsors and participants for making the inaugural Hope Starts Here 5k a great success. A great time was had by all and we raised over $15,000 to provide the support and training needed to reconnect justice-involved individuals to the workforce, making our communities safer, and saving tax-payer dollars.
Our inaugural Hope Starts Here 5K, presented by Florida Capital Bank, is a great race for runners and walkers of all levels looking for a route steeped in Jacksonville history and benefitting an amazing cause. A lovely trek incorporating the Emerald Trail, the course begins and ends at Operation New Hope – housed in one of Springfield’s most iconic buildings. The Hope Starts Here 5K helps Jacksonville build safer communities, stronger economies, and more stable families.
Proceeds from the Hope Starts Here 5k will benefit Operation New Hope, where we believe that we are all better than our worst mistake, worst day, or worst decision. We believe in people’s ability to learn from their errors and transform their lives through commitment and hard work. For over 20 years, we have worked to build a stronger community by creating opportunities for people with a criminal history to realize second chances by reconnecting to the workforce. Funds raised will be used to provide workforce training, mental health services, and job placement for people affected by the criminal justice system.
After the race, Operation New Hope’s great neighbors at Strings Sports Brewery will be hosting the Hope Starts Here 5k Breakfast and Brews at their fun restaurant with hoops, darts, and other games. Post-race breakfast and brews will be provided for members of a sponsored team and anyone who hosts a peer-to-peer fundraiser successfully raising at least $200 in donations. Strings Sports Brewery is the perfect place to reflect on your race and recharge.
