Mulligans for Hope Sponsor – Bono’s/Willie Jewell’s BBQ

At Operation New Hope, we have always been in the business of giving people second chances through reconnecting them with the workforce and their families. In golf, the practice of granting a mulligan is a kind and humane gesture to make good on an otherwise woeful shot – an opportunity to correct.  This practice of granting others second chances, or – mulligans – inspired our 1st Annual Mulligans for Hope Charity Golf Tournament.

Funds raised during this tournament will be used to provide workforce training, mental health services, and job placement for people affected by the criminal justice system. This funding will allow ONH to expand our Ready4Release and Ready4Work programs to additional locations around the state as well as investing in innovation to upgrade technology services and deliver more training.

Bono’s Pit Fire Bar-B-Q as well as their sister restaurant Willie Jewell’s Old School Bar-B-Q are our newest sponsors for the Mulligans for Hope Golf Tournament, helping us make second chances a reality for our clients. Bono’s is an institution in Jacksonville, serving Real Pit BBQ out of the original Jax location on Beach Blvd. since 1949. Willie Jewell’s opened their first location in 2009 in Charleston, SC honoring the legacy of Willie, a chef credited with helping create the old Bono’s family recipes.

Bono’s has been a long time supporter of Operation New Hope, offering scholarship opportunities for our Ready4Work graduates. With generous support from Bono’s Pit Bar-B-Q and in partnership with the University of North Florida (UNF), the Bono’s Hope Scholarship is offered to qualifying Ready4Work Graduates wishing to obtain higher education.

“I believe we are all better than our worst mistake, worst day, or worst decision, I believe in second, third, and fourth chances. I believe in the underdog and the comeback story. If I can play even a small role in affecting that change, that chance, that hope, then I will be the grateful one for the opportunity to help.”  – Josh Martino, President of Bono’s Pit Bar-B-Q, Board Member of Operation New Hope, and member of the UNF Student Affairs Community Council

We are extremely grateful to receive this support from both Bono’s and Willie Jewell’s and can’t wait to see what this will do for our community! The Mulligans for Hope Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, October 25th at the Atlantic Beach Country Club.
