On October 25, 2021, Operation New Hope staff, board members, and volunteers were joined by 108 golfers at the beautiful Atlantic Beach Country Club for a day of fun, friendly competition, and fundraising. The inaugural Mulligans for Hope charity golf tournament was a huge success, raising an amazing $195,000 in support of second chances.
In addition to appearances by the Jaguars’ ROAR, sports commentator Frank Frangie, and a team of flexologists from StretchLab, we were so pleased to be joined by PGA Tour Caddie Eric Larson, who caddies for multiple-time winner Harris English. Eric Larson’s connection to the tournament extends beyond the game of golf. After serving time in prison himself, he understands the importance of second chances.
“I’ve gotten a second chance and look where I’m at,” Larson said to Florida Times Union report Garry Smits. “I hope to be involved with them [Operation New Hope] as much as I can. If they’ll have me, I’ll do anything I can to help.”
“The addition of Eric is all the more special, because it really allows people to see someone who went through a challenging time in life,” Kevin Gay, Founder/CEO of Operation New Hope, told writer Doug Milne of the PGATour.com. “Second chances were so significant to him. Look at what so many at the PGA TOUR did. They visited with him and they stayed with him. That is reflective of what Operation New Hope is all about….second chances.”
“For more than 20 years, we have been in the business of giving people mulligans,” added Gay. “Like in golf, the practice of granting a mulligan is a kind and humane gesture to make good on an otherwise woeful shot – an opportunity to correct. We are thrilled to be joined by PGA Tour Caddie Eric Larson, who is an inspiring example of our mission.”
Operation New Hope has been thrilled by the outpouring of support from the community and would like to highlight our top Mulligans for Hope sponsors: The Players, Suddath, bestbet, and Vystar Credit Union. Thank you to everyone who helped make our first year a success and a very special thanks to Atlantic Beach Country Club for hosting a great game and memorable experience. Everyone wins when you give a second chance!
