We are thrilled to announce that Operation New Hope has received a generous grant of over $40,000 from The Women’s Giving Alliance, an initiative of The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida. This grant was awarded during a member forum in May, where the WGA revealed that $750,000 would be distributed among 18 nonprofits in the region. These funds aim to support women’s health and well-being and address the critical issue of violence against women. The grant comes at a crucial time as we continue to expand our efforts to support incarcerated individuals and their families.
Building on Success: From Fatherhood to Motherhood Programs
In 2023, Operation New Hope was awarded the Responsible Fatherhood Education Programs grant from the Florida Department of Children and Families. This grant funds our delivery of the nationally recognized “InsideOut Dads” parenting program to 300 incarcerated fathers annually across the state. However, an equivalent program for incarcerated mothers did not exist, prompting Operation New Hope to seek funding for a pilot initiative aimed at addressing this need.
With the support from WGA, we are now preparing to launch a pioneering program specifically for incarcerated mothers. This motherhood program, modeled after the successful InsideOut Dads initiative, will be offered to women and mothers preparing for release from Florida women’s prisons. The program will be delivered to 30-50 women at two facilities we currently serve: Lowell Correctional Facility and Florida Women’s Reception Center.
The new parenting program for incarcerated mothers will provide evidence-informed mentoring on crucial topics such as communication skill development, problem-solving, family routines, discipline techniques, and parenting strategies to handle post-incarceration struggles that mothers frequently face. The curriculum is designed to be practical and trauma-informed, ensuring that participants can develop positive parenting styles and techniques to handle discipline without violence. This program will ensure better reentry outcomes for this underserved population, break traumatic generational incarceration cycles, stabilize families, and enhance overall wellness. The Northeast Florida community will reap the benefit of improved public safety, reduced strain on the justice system, foster care, and social services, as well as stronger and healthier families.
We are deeply grateful to The Women’s Giving Alliance and The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida for their support and commitment to improving the lives of women and families affected by incarceration. Together, we are building a brighter future for our community.
Stay tuned for updates as we roll out this transformative program and continue our mission to provide hope and support for those who need it most!
We provide support, life and job skills training for people affected by the criminal justice system and place them in employment that offers a sustainable quality of life.
