Filming Interview for Nelson Mandela International Day

Kevin Gay, Founder/CEO of Operation New Hope, sat down with Khalil Osiris of the Reflecting Freedom Network and Desmond Meade of Florida Rights Restoration Coalition to discuss the legacy of Nelson Mandela Nelson as part of this year’s Nelson Mandela International Day (#NMID2020).

Nelson Mandela International Day is a celebration of Mandela’s achievements in working towards democracy, social justice, human rights, peace and reconciliation. In these turbulent times, Nelson Mandela’s legacy inspires us to struggle for justice over inequality, dignity over humiliation and forgiveness over hatred.

As part of last year’s Nelson Mandela International Day celebration, Kevin Gay was honored with the House of Mandela Reflecting Freedom Award for Community Impact for his years of service to the community and dedication to returning citizens in the field of reentry. Also honored were State Attorney Melissa Nelson, Dr. Jennifer Brown the Executive Director of KIPP Schools Jacksonville, and Darnell Smith, Florida Blue’s Market President for North Florida Region.

On Nelson Mandela’s birthday – July 18 – the Reflecting Freedom Network will host a special livestream at 1:00 pm ET. The program with showcase Nelson Mandela International Day 2019 Reflecting Freedom Award winners sharing their thoughts about systemic racism and the civil unrest happening across America and the world.
