L. Kinder “Kin” Cannon III was a member of the Florida Bar from 1967 to 2019, with a distinguished legal career focused on corporate finance and securities law. He spent nearly 30 years as a partner at Holland & Knight LLP, an international law firm, and served as the firm’s General Counsel for the decade preceding his retirement in 2013. In addition to his legal practice, Kin gained valuable business experience through two years of service as a corporate executive overseeing business development and marketing initiatives.
Throughout his career, Kin earned numerous professional honors and recognitions, including inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA, and Florida Legal Elite by Florida Trend magazine. He received an AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, was named a Fellow of the American Bar Association, and was awarded Holland & Knight’s prestigious Chesterfield Smith Lawyer Award in 2010, the firm’s highest recognition for a partner.
Kin has also demonstrated a longstanding commitment to the legal profession through his service to the Florida Board of Bar Examiners. He served as Chair of the Board in 1995 and continued contributing as an Emeritus Member through 2019.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida College of Law, where he served as Executive Editor of the University of Florida Law Review.
Kin’s connection to Operation New Hope dates back to the organization’s founding in 1999. Before joining the Board of Directors, he served as Operation New Hope’s pro bono business attorney from its inception, providing legal counsel and guidance that helped support the organization’s growth and mission. His longstanding relationship with Operation New Hope Founder Kevin Gay began in the early 1990s when they served together as founding members of Reconcile Jacksonville, a racial reconciliation ministry.
In addition to his service with Operation New Hope, Kin serves on the Board of Trustees for Fresh Ministries, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing economic and social disparities in Northeast Florida and selected regions around the world.
