L. Kinder (Kin) Cannon III was a member of the Florida Bar from 1967 to 2019. His law practice was focused on corporate finance and securities law. Kin was a partner in Holland & Knight LLP (an international law firm) for nearly 30 years, serving as its General Counsel for the decade immediately preceding his retirement in 2013. Kin’s professional experience was augmented by service for two years as a business executive responsible for corporate development and marketing.
Kin’s professional recognitions include: The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA, and Florida Legal Elite (Florida Trend magazine); AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell; Fellow of the American Bar Association; and 2010 recipient of the Chesterfield Smith Lawyer Award, Holland & Knight’s highest recognition of one of its partners. In 1995, Kin served as Chair of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners and continued service as one of its Emeritus Members into 2019.
Kin earned a BA degree from Duke University and a JD degree from the University of Florida College of Law, where he was Executive Editor of the University of Florida Law Review.
Prior to joining its Board, Kin served continuously as ONH’s pro bono business lawyer from its inception in 1999. His close relationship with Kevin Gay began in the early 1990s when they both were founding members of Reconcile Jacksonville, a racial reconciliation ministry. Kin also serves on the Board of Trustees of Fresh Ministries, Inc., a nonprofit organization addressing economic and social disparities in Northeast Florida and in targeted regions abroad.
